Get rid of Jaw Pain

Jaw pain commonly stems from chronic injuries or gradual damage to the jaw bone and surrounding area. Natural causes of pain in the jaw may include impairments such a clicking of the jaw, Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) problems, Bruxism (teeth grinding,) misalignment of upper and lower teeth (more commonly known as an overbite) or development of wisdom teeth into the back of the mouth and lower jaw. Other causes of jaw pain like nerve damage are typically from surgical procedures to correct such issues but can also occur due to acute and traumatic damage from injuries to the area such as a blow to the jaw or a fall.
     Most of the time individuals experience more intense jaw pain only after corrective surgeries to the jaw or mouth. Chronic issues such as clicking or grinding result in more of a subtle pain or soreness in the jaw area that develops over time and may be gradual. There are a variety of surgical procedures performed on the jaw which may be used to correct these ailments.  Procedures such as jaw alignment correction, wisdom tooth extraction, and other dental surgeries are common in this area of the body. Typically the recovery period involves some pain and swelling in the jaw area which is reduced with the use of ice wraps or cold packs, but when the pain goes away or subsides, it typically goes away for good.
     Jaw injuries and associated ailments can be extremely painful, because the muscles and joints in the jaw are constantly in use. Whether it’s chewing food or speaking, chances are, you are moving your jaw a good majority of the day and sometimes even at night if grinding or clicking occur in your sleep. The issues that cause jaw pain can easily be corrected and due to a wide variety of individuals whom experience this pain, it’s rare that some form of treatment can’t be used to help reduce the pain or swelling. Some of the more common jaw ailments or jaw pain are noted in this article, and result in either a corrective jaw surgery, dental procedure or other type of corrective action.
     The first major source of jaw pain is wisdom teeth and wisdom tooth extraction surgery. While it may seem like an extremely painful process, many people go through a wisdom tooth extraction surgery at some point in their life. This is probably the most common jaw surgery performed on young adults because almost everyone develops wisdom teeth and many people don’t have room in their mouths for the developing molars which need to be removed. Once wisdom teeth begin to come in and even before they start to protrude from the gums, they can painfully force other teeth out of place which if left alone long enough can even cause the other teeth to become crooked. The surgical procedure to correct this issue is not long or invasive and usually it just takes a matter of days to recover with the use of an ice wrap and some antibiotics and other medications.      Another major source of jaw pain is teeth grinding or Bruxism. It can be caused by depression, stress, anxiety, and a handful of other factors. This is more of a chronic issue that develops over time and is also sometimes a harder jaw ailment to notice and correct depending on the severity. The reason for this is that many times it occurs in sleep. Symptoms of teeth grinding or teeth clinching might include sore jaw muscles, maybe a toothache or headache, TMJ issues, and even loss of sleep. Symptoms may not even be physically noticeable until the teeth start to become reduced in size from the grinding. Clicking in the jaw is another issue that can become quite bothersome. It may not be continuously painful, but when clicking occurs and occurs over long periods of time, the jaw bone can become swollen and start to hurt.  
     Pinched or damaged nerves can arise from dental or jaw surgery and cause a bit of a problem as well. When the corrective surgery (whether it be a jaw surgery, a wisdom tooth extraction, or any other procedure) takes place, nerves can be damaged causing sensitivity and pain, or even numbness in the area. Sometimes this occurs and damage is permanent, however many times the pain subsides or the feeling comes back after a matter of days, sometimes it can even take weeks. There are many forms of jaw pain, whether it’s pain from chronic issues that arise over time, or pain from a surgical procedure to correct these issues, it can be reduced and even eliminated entirely with the use of several jaw ice wrap products available on the internet.
     If jaw pain is chronic in nature and has developed over time (like teeth grinding or clicking of the jaw) an ice wrap for the jaw is a great source of pain relief. You can ice the jaw when pain arises, and reduce the pain and swelling without heavy medications.      It may be that you are experiencing jaw pain which is related to a dental or jaw surgery, and recovery. Don’t worry, it won’t last long and as soon as the pain subsides, it usually does for good! After surgery follow your doctor’s instructions and keep ice wraps on the area to reduce the pain and swelling and it will eventually subside. Unfortunately, jaw and dental ailments which are corrected using surgical procedures are probably more painful than others, however other ailments such as teeth grinding are painful as well. People who grind their teeth are at risk for permanently damaging their teeth, and experience very sore jaw muscles which sometimes even leads TMJ issues. Some ways to reduce the pain are with the use of mouth guards or other dental appliances during sleep, trying to reduce stress, eliminating hard foods for a while, plenty of sleep, and different exercises to help the muscles.
